The term 3G or given its full name Third-generation
mobile technology was launched in Malaysia in 2005. It remains one of
the most effective mobile technology to date in comparison to GPRS (General
Packet Radio Services) but only now with improvements in mobile hardware
it is beginning to be exploited by the telecom sector. 3G is able to transfer
both voice data (a telephone call) and non-voice data (such as downloading
information, exchanging email, and instant messaging) but at a higher
tranfers rate promising faster communications services, including voice,
fax and Internet, anytime and anywhere with seamless global roaming.

Due to its dramatically faster bit rate it allows
mobile operators to offer high value-added, bandwidth-intensive
applications. The result is broadband access on mobile devices
anywhere
within a network's coverage area. This means having a permanent
Internet or office e-mail connection at your desk, in your office
or across your university campus from one end of a country to another,
without interruption as in Bahrain, where the 3G technology is
being
used.

Entertainment and business applications of 3G
include ring tones, wallpapers, easy transfer of audio and video
clips, sending and receiving e-mails and attachments, Internet
browsing, multiplayer graphic-intensive gaming, multi-party MMS
broadcasts
(ie video streaming news or meetings) and person-to-person visual
calling - but it's the many life-saving applications of 3G in
the public, health, social and first-responder services that
make it
a unique innovation.

The first 3G network to be deployed on a large
commercial scale was deployed in Japan in 2001. In 2005 about 40%
of subscribers use 3G networks only, and it is expected that during
2006 the transition from 2G to 3G will be largely completed in Japan.
Upgrades to the next 3.5G stage with 3 Mbit/s data rates are ongoing.
The successful 3G introduction in Japan the real-life usage of video
telephony on 3G networks is only a very small faction of all services.
On the other hand, downloading of music finds very strong demand
by customers. Music downloads were pioneered KDDI with the EZchakuuta
and the Chaku Uta Full services. Work has already begun on the development
of fourth generation (4G) technologies in Japan where the mobile
data transmission rates are planned to be up to 20 megabits per
second.

Conclusion is that if the next time you manage
to witness an accident, open burining, road rage or any crime, get
your 3G hand phone ready, snap some pictures and report it to relate

Speed on the increase with HSDPA
HSDPA in full High Speed Downlink Packet Access provides a
two-fold increase in air interface capacity and a five-fold
increase in data speeds in the downlink direction. HSDPA also
shortens the round-trip time between the network and terminals
and reduces variance in downlink transmission delay. Boosting
typical connection speeds to between 3 Mbit/s and 4Mbit/s,
some resources said.

Better marketing through videos
"A picture can say thousand words", the construction industry
actually found 3G videophones as a way to share information
rapidly about a construction site or building materials. 3G
videophones also provide a new channel for advertising. Subscribers
essentially being able to download a movie trailer while some
use their phones to watch highlights of some celebrity concert,
soccer match and so does business people get to stay up to
date with those financial news programs.
