Ops Sikap 16, an integrated road safety operation,
recorded a 2.3 per cent drop in the number of accidents to 5,244
in the first five days of the operation compared to 5,349 in the
same period last year.
Bukit Aman Traffic Chief Datuk Hamza Taib said
the decline was following integrated operations by the authorities.
"Motorists are also becoming more aware of
their roles to prevent accidents by practising safe driving," he
said.
A total of 28 fatal crashes were recorded during
the five days as compared to 68 in the same period last year, he
told reporters after launching a road safety campaign organised
by Goodyear Malaysia, here today.
Ops Sikap 16 takes place from Jan 31 to Feb 14
to monitor traffics flow and reduce accidents during Chinese New
Year festival.
